MIA EHRLICH
CO-FOUNDER, DIRECTOR, TINKERER
Ehrlich graduated early Magna Cum Laude from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama with minors in Creative Writing and Film Production, and a personal concentration on Classics, Philosophy, and Greek Theatre.
In 2022, Ehrlich joined forces with composer and childhood friend Daniel Seligman. The two have produced multiple workshops and presentations of their original work.
As a director, Mia has a vision and does everything in her power to bring that vision to reality. Whether that means creating hundreds of drawings in order to animate a scene to help collaborators better understand her ideas, or crafting her own props/costumes/set pieces in order to ensure they are exactly as she imagined, Mia is committed to trusting and following her own creative spirit, no matter how difficult. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty!
Mia also designed this website. Every stamp you see was handmade by her, and this is her handwriting you're reading right now!
CRAFTING FOR "GROUT"
"I laid my own tile flooring in order to have the blood and the grout stain exactly as I imagined. I also created my own fake blood out of household supplies to ensure it was the correct color and consistency."
CrAFTING FOR "SWEET MOTHER OF CHRIST"
"For SMOC (as it's known colloquially), I created costumes and props from scratch, including but not limited to: a piñata, a handful of custom t-shirts, a number of "handbooks", a golden torch, etc. I also curated and operated my own rag-tag lighting kit in order to execute specific lighting effects at facebook-marketplace level prices."
CRAFTING FOR "BUG"
For "BUG", I knew I wanted to sculpt my own fake teeth and mix my own fake blood. For the teeth, I sculpted them out of spackle so they could be easily crushed under a knife. I knew the audience was going to be sitting very close to the performers, so it as important to me that the teeth actually looked real. As for the blood, I wanted it to be thicker and darker than the blood in "GROUT". I wanted it to coagulate and really drip out of the actor's mouth as he turned to face the audience after pulling out his "tooth". The reaction of the crowd was absolutely priceless.
For "THE 1000 YEAR OLD MAN", I created a series of linocut block prints of cityscapes. I also created all the stamps and the fonts for this website!
